Subject: Missed Connection Because of Delayed Flight Hi Priya, I hope you're settling back into work after your trip. I wanted to explain why I didn't make it to Calgary in time for your housewarming on Saturday, since you must have wondered what happened. My flight out of Halifax was supposed to leave at 6:45 a.m., but a mechanical issue with the plane pushed the departure back first by two hours, then by another ninety minutes once the maintenance crew found a second problem with a sensor. By the time we finally boarded, I had already missed my connection in Toronto, and the airline could only rebook me on a flight the next morning. I ended up spending nearly seven hours at Pearson, most of it sitting near a gate with no working outlets, watching the departure board change over and over. To be fair, the airline did hand out meal vouchers once the delay passed three hours, and a staff member helped me find a hotel room for the night at a reduced rate, since the delay was clearly their fault rather than the weather. Still, I missed the whole party, and I felt terrible knowing you'd bought extra food for me. I've already filed a claim for compensation under the air passenger protection rules, since a delay caused by a mechanical fault should qualify. I'll let you know what they say. Could we plan a smaller get-together sometime next month instead? I'd love to finally see the new apartment and bring that housewarming gift I never delivered. Talk soon, Marcus
