TEXT A — Harbour Heritage Museum — Visitor Notice The Harbour Heritage Museum welcomes you. Please read the following before you begin your visit. Doors open at 9.30 am from Tuesday to Sunday and we close our ticket desk one hour before the building shuts at 5.00 pm. We are not open on Mondays, apart from public holidays that fall on a Monday, when the timetable follows our Sunday hours. Large bags and umbrellas must be left in the free lockers beside the main entrance. A refundable coin, which is returned when you collect your belongings, releases each locker. Photography without flash is permitted throughout, except in the Textiles Room on the upper floor, where the fabrics are sensitive to light. Our ground-floor café serves hot meals until 3.30 pm and light snacks after that. Free drinking water is available at the fountain by the stairs. Food and drink may not be carried into any of the galleries, and chewing gum is discouraged everywhere. Assistance dogs are the only animals allowed inside the building. Wheelchairs may be borrowed at no charge from the cloakroom, though we ask that you telephone a day ahead so that one can be set aside for you. A lift reaches every floor. If you require anything during your stay, our staff wear bright green lanyards and are happy to help. ———————————— TEXT B — What's On This Season Three special events run alongside our permanent collection this spring. Tickets for the events below are separate from general admission and should be booked in advance. Lantern Nights — On the last Friday of every month the museum stays open until 9.00 pm. Rooms are lit only by hundreds of paper lanterns, and a storyteller leads a slow walk through the shipping galleries. Best suited to adults; children under twelve must be accompanied throughout. £8 per person. Young Makers Workshop — Every Saturday morning, children aged six to eleven can build a model boat from recycled materials with one of our craft tutors. All tools and glue are supplied. Places are limited to fifteen, and one adult may stay to watch without charge. £5 per child. Behind the Ropes — On the first Wednesday of each month, a curator takes a small group into the store rooms that are normally closed to the public. You will handle objects that never go on display. Sturdy footwear is essential. Numbers are capped at eight, and the tour is not recommended for those with limited mobility. Photography is not allowed during this tour, as some pieces are on loan. £12 per person. ———————————— TEXT C — Membership and Getting Here An annual membership costs £30 for one adult or £45 for a household of up to two adults and three children. Members enjoy unlimited free entry, a tenth off everything in the gift shop, and priority booking for all special events. A membership card arrives by post within ten working days; until it reaches you, your emailed receipt will admit you. The museum sits on Quay Street, a five-minute walk from the central bus station. The nearest railway stop, Old Wharf, is a fifteen-minute walk along the waterfront. There is no visitor car park on site, but the Marine Road multi-storey, two streets away, offers a reduced daily rate to anyone who shows a museum ticket at its pay desk. Step-free access is available at the side entrance on Cooper's Lane; the Quay Street doors have three stone steps. Cyclists will find covered racks under the archway to the rear. For lost property, please email the address printed on your ticket rather than telephoning, as enquiries are handled once a day. Buggies may be left, folded, in the cloakroom during your visit, and a baby-changing table is provided on the ground floor.
