TEXT Text A — Brookvale Community Library — Membership and Borrowing Joining is free for anyone who lives, works or studies in the Brookvale district. Bring one item showing your current home address (a utility bill, a bank statement or a tenancy agreement) to any service desk, and your card will be printed that afternoon. Children under fourteen must be signed up by a parent or guardian, who accepts responsibility for items borrowed on the child's card. Adult members may hold up to fifteen items at once and keep most of them for three weeks. Newly released novels and popular film titles are lent for one week only and cannot be renewed if another reader has reserved them. Reference works marked with a red dot stay in the building and may not leave the premises under any circumstances. Replacement cards cost £2.50. If your card is mislaid, please report it at once so we can freeze the account; you will not be charged for anything borrowed after the loss has been recorded with staff. Overdue charges no longer apply to children's tickets, though they remain in force for adult borrowers at ten pence per item each day. The maximum fine on any single item is capped at five pounds, after which it is treated as lost and billed at its replacement cost. ———————————— TEXT Text B — Study Spaces and Room Hire The first floor houses three kinds of study area. The Quiet Room, at the eastern end, is for silent individual work; talking and mobile phones are not permitted there at any time. The Group Study benches in the centre may be booked by two or more people for discussion and shared projects. Along the south windows sit twelve computer stations, available on a first-come basis for up to ninety minutes when others are waiting. Two bookable meeting rooms can be hired by local clubs and small businesses. The Willow Room seats eight and comes with a whiteboard; the larger Cedar Room seats twenty and includes a projector and screen. Both are let at £6 an hour for registered charities and £14 an hour for everyone else. A refundable deposit of £20 is taken when you confirm. Bookings open twenty-eight days ahead and may be made in person, by telephone, or through the library website. Please cancel at least forty-eight hours beforehand if your plans change, otherwise the deposit is retained. Light refreshments are allowed in the meeting rooms but nowhere else in the building. ———————————— TEXT Text C — Events This Month — What's On at Brookvale Story Time for the under-fives runs every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10.30 in the Children's Corner. No booking is needed, but seating is limited and offered on the day. Each session lasts around forty minutes and finishes with a simple craft activity; parents are asked to remain with their children throughout. The Digital Helpers drop-in takes place on the first Saturday of each month between 1 and 4 p.m. Volunteers can guide you through setting up email, using the council's online services, or downloading electronic books to your own device. Bring your smartphone, tablet or laptop, along with any passwords you may need. Our reading group for adults meets on the last Wednesday evening of the month at 6.45. July's chosen title is a travel memoir set in the Scottish Highlands; copies are held behind the main desk for members to collect. New faces are always welcome, and there is no charge to attend. A local history talk, 'Brookvale's Vanished Mills', will be given by the district archivist on Friday 18 July at 7 p.m. Tickets are £3 and must be reserved beforehand, as places are expected to go quickly.
