TEXT A — Beginners' Pottery (Course PT2) Riverbank Community College — Autumn Term Evening Courses Beginners' Pottery (Course PT2) Never touched clay before? This friendly ten-week course welcomes complete newcomers, and no previous experience of any kind is expected. You will learn to shape bowls and mugs by hand and on the potter's wheel, and everything you make is fired in our own kiln at no extra charge. Tutor Marina Okonkwo has taught pottery here for twelve years and specialises in helping nervous beginners relax and enjoy themselves. Classes run on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in Studio 4, beginning 16 September. The fee is 145 dollars, which covers all clay and glazes; you need only bring an apron and a willingness to get messy. Places are limited to eight learners so that everyone receives individual attention from the tutor. Booking closes one week before the start date, or sooner if the class fills up. A twenty-dollar discount applies to anyone aged over sixty or holding a current student card. Please note that the college cannot store finished pieces for longer than a fortnight after the term ends; any work left unclaimed after that is recycled. ———————————— TEXT B — Learn Conversational Spanish Learn Conversational Spanish — Twilight Language Series Fancy chatting confidently on your next holiday abroad? Our Spanish for Travellers class concentrates firmly on speaking and listening rather than tedious grammar drills. Over eight weekly sessions you will practise ordering meals, asking for directions and handling everyday situations through lively role-play with a partner. No textbook is required; all handouts are supplied electronically and emailed to you the evening before each lesson, so there is nothing to buy. Sessions take place on Thursdays from 7pm at the Meadowgate Library, and not at the main college site, so please double-check the address before you set off. The tutor, Diego Salvatierra, is a native speaker who grew up in Seville and has lived in this country for six years. Course fee: 110 dollars, payable in full at the time of enrolment. Unlike several of our other language courses, this one carries no age restriction, and children over fourteen may attend provided they are accompanied by an adult throughout the session. Refunds are given only if you withdraw before the second session; after that, no money can be returned. ———————————— TEXT C — Digital Photography Weekend Workshop Digital Photography Weekend Workshop — Notice to Enrolled Students Thank you for signing up for this ever-popular workshop. This is an intensive two-day event, not a term-long course, held on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October, from 10am to 4pm each day, in Room B12. Please bring your own camera — a smartphone is acceptable for the first day, but a camera with manual settings is strongly recommended for Sunday's session on controlling shutter speed. A laptop is useful but not essential; a small number can be borrowed from reception if you reserve one in advance. Lunch is not provided, although a cafe on the ground floor stays open throughout the weekend for drinks and snacks. The Sunday afternoon includes an optional outdoor shoot in the nearby park, which goes ahead in light rain but is cancelled in the event of a storm. Certificates of attendance are issued by email within ten working days of the workshop finishing. Any questions should be directed to the workshop coordinator rather than the main office, whose staff cannot answer queries about this event.
