TEXT A — Hartfield Community Library — Membership and Opening Hours Joining the library is free for everyone who lives, works or studies in the Hartfield district. Bring one proof of address, such as a utility bill or tenancy agreement dated within the last three months, to any service desk and your card will be issued on the spot. Children under 16 need a parent or guardian to sign the application form. Lost cards are replaced for £2. Members may borrow up to 12 items at a time. Books are lent for three weeks; DVDs and console games for one week. Items can be renewed twice online or by telephone, provided no other reader has reserved them. From 1 September we no longer charge fines for late returns; however, anyone who loses an item will be billed for the cost of a replacement copy. Opening hours: Monday to Wednesday 9.00 am – 7.00 pm; Thursday 9.00 am – 8.00 pm; Friday and Saturday 9.30 am – 5.00 pm; closed Sunday. The building is fully accessible, and a hearing loop is fitted at the ground-floor desk for visitors who use hearing aids. Free parking is available for Blue Badge holders in the courtyard behind the building, and study desks upstairs may be booked for up to two hours a day. ———————————— TEXT B — Can't Get to Us? We'll Come to You — the Hartfield Home Library Service If illness, disability or caring responsibilities make it hard for you to visit a branch, our volunteers will bring the library to your door, completely free of charge. How it works: a volunteer calls once a fortnight, on the same weekday each time, bringing up to ten items chosen to suit your tastes. Tell us your favourite authors and subjects when you register, and staff will make a personal selection for you. Large-print books, audiobooks on CD and music are all available. There is nothing to pay, and no fines are ever charged on home-delivery loans. To register, telephone 01632 960447 between 10 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, or ask a relative to complete the form at hartfieldlibraries.org/homeservice. A member of staff will then arrange a short home visit to record your reading preferences before deliveries begin. Please note that the service covers the Hartfield district only; residents of neighbouring Ashworth should contact their own council. Deliveries pause only on public holidays, when your items are automatically renewed for you. We are always looking for new volunteer drivers. Full training is given, and mileage expenses are paid. ———————————— TEXT C — Borrow More Than Books: the Hartfield Library of Things Why buy a tool you will use once a year? Our Library of Things, on the first floor of the Central branch, lends useful household equipment for a fraction of the cost of owning it. What's on the shelves: a carpet cleaner (£12 for three days), a steam wallpaper stripper (£8 for three days), a projector and screen (£10 per weekend), a sewing machine (£6 per week), plus gazebos, hedge trimmers and much more. A full list with photographs is displayed at the first-floor desk, and all hire income is spent on new stock for the children's section. How to borrow: you must be a library member aged 18 or over and show photographic ID on your first visit. Items can be reserved up to four weeks ahead through our website; popular items such as the carpet cleaner are rarely available on the day. A refundable deposit of £20 is taken for power tools and returned when the item comes back undamaged. Please examine equipment when you collect it. Once you sign the loan form, you accept responsibility for returning the item clean and in working order. Late returns are charged at double the daily rate, because another borrower is usually waiting.
