IELTS Writing Task 1 (Academic)
The diagram below shows the water cycle, which is the process by which water moves continuously between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Stage 1
Evaporation
Heat from the sun warms oceans, lakes and rivers, turning liquid water into vapour
Stage 2
Condensation
Rising vapour cools in the atmosphere and forms clouds of tiny droplets
Stage 3
Precipitation
Saturated clouds release water as rain, snow or hail
Stage 4
Infiltration
Part of the fallen water soaks down into the soil
Stage 5
Groundwater
Infiltrated water is stored in underground aquifers
Stage 6
Surface run-off
Remaining water flows over land through streams and rivers
Stage 7
Return to the ocean
Groundwater and run-off drain back into the sea, restarting the cycle
