The two maps below show the area around Ashford Docks before and after a major harbour redevelopment scheme. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Before redevelopment
- Cargo warehouses along the western quay
- A large container yard in the centre
- A railway line running along the southern edge
- Fishing trawlers moored in the eastern basin
- A fuel storage depot to the north
After redevelopment (today)
- Warehouses converted into waterfront apartments
- The container yard replaced by a public park
- A pedestrian promenade in place of the railway
- The eastern basin turned into a marina for yachts
- The fuel depot demolished for a shopping centre
- A new footbridge linking the two sides of the harbour
