The city has begun rolling out curbside compost pickup to neighbourhoods that previously only had garbage and recycling bins. Residents received a small green bin along with a printed guide explaining which items are for composting, such as food scraps, eggshells, and yard waste. Plastic bags and meat bones, however, must still go in the regular garbage. Households are asked to place the green bin at the curb by seven in the morning on their scheduled day, since trucks often arrive earlier than expected. The city has also warned that bins left out too early may raccoons and other animals looking for food. Anyone who missed the initial bin delivery can request one through the city's website, though the may take up to two weeks during busy periods.
