Put the sentences in the correct order:

  1. Today the canal is once again navigable, and the towpaths that volunteers rebuilt now attract walkers and cyclists rather than the barges they were originally designed for.
  2. Over the following ten years, these volunteers cleared the channel by hand, rebuilt collapsed locks, and restored the towpaths that ran alongside the water.
  3. In the 1990s, a group of local volunteers petitioned the council to fund a full restoration rather than let the historic canal disappear entirely.
  4. Local authorities eventually closed the waterway altogether, and for the next three decades it sat abandoned, slowly filling with debris and invasive plants.
  5. By the 1960s, the Milbrook Canal had fallen into such disrepair that barges could no longer navigate its silted, overgrown channel.
