Extension Cord Safety Reminder — Facilities Department All staff using extension cords in office or storage areas must follow these guidelines. Extension cords are intended for temporary use only and should never be run under carpets or through doorways where they could be stepped on or pinched. Do not connect more than one extension cord together to reach a further outlet; use a single cord of the correct length instead. Cords showing frayed wires, exposed metal, or a cracked plug must be removed from service immediately and reported to Facilities for replacement. Space heaters and other high-wattage appliances should be plugged directly into a wall outlet, not into an extension cord, to avoid overheating. Any employee who finds a damaged cord should tag it "Do Not Use" and leave it at the front desk. Questions can be directed to the Facilities helpdesk at extension 204.
