City Announces Changes to Street Parking Permits Starting next month, residents in the downtown core will need to renew their street parking permits online rather than in person at city hall. The city says the switch is meant to cut down on long lineups that have formed every renewal season for the past several years, and to reduce the amount of paper processing required by staff. To renew, residents will need their vehicle registration number, proof of address such as a utility bill, and a valid credit or debit card, since renewal fees can only be paid electronically under the new system. Paper applications will still be accepted at city hall for residents who do not have internet access or who need help completing the form, but these will be processed more slowly, typically within two weeks instead of the same day. Permit prices are not changing this year, remaining at ninety dollars annually or twenty-five dollars per quarter. The city is also extending the renewal deadline by two weeks this year only, to give residents extra time to adjust to the new online system. Anyone with questions about the new process can call the parking services line, which will have extended hours during the first month of the transition.
