FOLLOWING UP AFTER YOUR INTERVIEW. Sending a follow-up message after a job interview is a small step that many candidates skip, but it can leave a lasting impression on hiring managers who are comparing several strong applicants. A good follow-up is short, sent within a day or two of the interview, and mentions something specific from the conversation rather than a generic thank-you. For example, referencing a project the interviewer described or a question you enjoyed answering shows that you were genuinely engaged rather than sending a copied template to every employer. Keep the message brief, no more than a few sentences, and avoid repeating your entire resume or restating why you want the job in detail, since that was already covered in the interview itself. It is also acceptable to gently ask about the expected timeline for a decision if the interviewer did not mention one, as this shows organized follow-through without seeming impatient. If you do not hear back within the timeline given, one polite check-in email is appropriate, but repeated messages can come across as pressuring the employer. Email remains the most professional channel for this kind of follow-up, even if earlier communication happened through a hiring platform or text message.
